The SAP Cloud Connector

SAP Cloud Connector is a necessary building block to create a hybrid cloud environment and to utilize all of it's advantages. It provides secure connection between SAP Cloud environment and customer's internal systems.

The SAP Cloud Connector is a tool that plays a crucial role in managing a hybrid SAP system landscape. It is as a secure connector between customer's on-premise system and the SAP Business Technology Platform (SAP BTP). SAP Cloud Connector can be installed on a Windows, Linux, or Mac OS. It establishes a secure connection to the SAP cloud, enabling SAP Cloud products to communicate securely with systems in a customer’s on-premise/private cloud landscape

Role and new option with SAP Cloud Connector

There are other methods for SAP BTP to communicate with customer internal systems, for example exposing these systems directly to the internet. However, from security point of view, this is very high risk of all kinds of attacks. Therefore we use the Cloud Connector to act as a secure bridge between SAP Cloud and customer on-premise/private cloud systems.

This bridge is used exclusively by SAP Cloud products or applications that you’ve deployed to the SAP platform as a service (PaaS), like SAP BTP, to communicate with your internal systems securely. The SAP Cloud Connector has to be connected with a subaccount on SAP BTP.

One of new possibilities with SAP Cloud Connector is for instance developing an app that can be hosted in SAP BTP

and it can communicate with the on-premise system to exchange the data it needs via the SAP Cloud Connector.

Various SAP BTP services, such as SAP Asset Manager, SAP Data Warehouse Cloud, SAP Cloud Integration, but also SAP Cloud IAG, allow connecting the service to internal systems.

SAP API Management, can utilize Cloud Connector to expose internal APIs to the internet in a secure and controlled way, allowing external parties/business partners to communicate with your systems via this secure API Gateway.
